Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said he hopes his daughter, figure skater Nadezhda Peskova, will one day become an Olympic champion.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Peskov told RIA Novosti the path is extremely difficult and competitive.
“Of course, as parents, we would all like to hope for that. But it is an extremely complicated process. Thousands, even tens of thousands of athletes strive for top results, but only a few reach the summit,” the official said.
Nadezhda Peskova competes in ice dance with Andrey Chelekov. The athletes train under a coaching group led by renowned specialist Anjelika Krylova.
The young pair recently made its debut at a tournament held for Olympic champion Yevgeny Plushenko’s prize, gaining its first experience in an official competition.
Ice dance is one of the figure skating disciplines contested at the Winter Olympics, where competitors perform as pairs to music. Reaching the Olympic level requires sustained training and success in a highly competitive field.
