Russian President Vladimir Putin did not receive a birthday congratulatory telegram from U.S. President Donald Trump, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told RIA Novosti.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Peskov said no official congratulatory message had arrived from the U.S. leadership. “There was no congratulatory telegram from Trump, and there is none,” he said.
Trump had told reporters at the White House that he planned to call and congratulate his Russian counterpart on his birthday. He also said Washington intended to help secure a peaceful settlement to what he described as the next — ninth — armed conflict through its mediation efforts.
On October 1, Putin thanked Trump for his consistent efforts to find a diplomatic solution to the Ukraine crisis and highlighted the long-standing constructive relationship between the two countries’ leaders.
