North Korea fired around a dozen short-range ballistic missiles toward the East Sea, also known as the Sea of Japan, on Thursday, South Korea’s military said, according to Anadolu Agency.
The missiles were launched from the Wonsan area, and their flight distances and other specifications are being analysed, Yonhap News reported, citing South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff.
South Korea’s military said it had increased surveillance and remained alert to possible further launches. It added that it was maintaining a robust defence posture and closely sharing information with the United States and Japan about the latest launch.
Earlier, Japan’s Defense Ministry said Pyongyang had fired “what may be a ballistic missile.” Japan’s Coast Guard urged ships to follow further updates and avoid approaching any objects that had fallen, Kyodo News reported.
The latest launch followed North Korea’s firing of multiple ballistic missiles from the Pyongyang area toward the East Sea on Oct. 12.
