Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr has been appointed as the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, succeeding Ali Larijani in the high-ranking post.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing NourNews, that the appointment was confirmed by Seyed Mehdi Tabatabaei, the Deputy Director of the Communications and Information Department of the Iranian Presidential Administration.

Zolghadr brings an extensive military and administrative background to the role, having previously served as a senior commander within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). His career includes serving as the former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces for Basij Affairs, and holding various significant positions within the Iranian judicial system between 2012 and 2020.

The leadership change follows the death of the former Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani. According to reports, Larijani was killed on the morning of March 17 during a joint operation initiated by the United States and Israel on February 28. This transition comes at a period of heightened regional tension, as the Supreme National Security Council remains the primary body responsible for determining Iran's defense and national security policies under the guidance of the Supreme Leader.
