Messi’s Barcelona farewell ceremony expected in 18 months

Former Barcelona board member Toni Freixa has said Lionel Messi’s farewell ceremony with the club at Camp Nou is expected to take place in about a year and a half.

“In a year and a half, Barcelona will hold a farewell ceremony for Leo Messi at Camp Nou. This is confirmed information,” Freixa said. He did not give an exact date for the event.

Messi came through Barcelona’s youth academy and played for the club’s first team from 2004 to 2021. During that period, he won team and individual honors and claimed a record eight Ballon d’Or awards.

Last week, Messi played a farewell match for Argentina’s national team. Argentina beat Benin 3-0, with Messi scoring once and providing two assists.
