German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said Russia poses a serious threat to the existing European security order. According to the n-tv television channel, he made the remarks during an event in Münster.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Merz said Europe’s peace order faces a stark challenge from Russian revisionism.
The chancellor said the future of security across Europe is at stake in the war in Ukraine and stressed the importance of remaining open to diplomatic solutions.
Russian President Vladimir Putin previously said military operations in Ukraine could be halted to prevent further losses on both sides if the West agreed to terms acceptable to Moscow.
