Attributing statements the head of state did not make to him and presenting them as official positions is a crude form of disinformation intended to mislead the public.
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that the Media and Broadcasting Council issued a statement on the matter.
It said that false statements attributed to the President of Azerbaijan had been circulating on social media in Turkey.
“We reiterate that the primary and official sources of information about the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan’s speeches, statements and activities are the head of state’s official website and social media accounts. When preparing and disseminating information on this subject, those sources must be used. Statements and views published elsewhere must not be attributed to the head of state without confirmation from official sources.
The Media and Broadcasting Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan calls on media outlets and social media users to verify information responsibly, check it against official sources before sharing, and refrain from spreading disinformation,” the statement said.
