Recent attacks on media representatives filming at incident scenes, including physical violence and interference with their professional duties, have raised serious concerns. Such actions threaten journalists’ safety and also interfere with the public’s right to receive information about events of public importance.
"Operativ Məlumat Mərkəzi-OMM" reports that the statement was issued by the Media and Broadcasting Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The statement cited Article 6 of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On Media,” which prohibits unlawful interference in journalists’ professional activities, as well as pressure on or persecution of them:
“The Media and Broadcasting Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan strongly condemns cases of violence against journalists and obstruction of their lawful professional activities. It expresses confidence that the incidents will be investigated promptly, comprehensively and objectively, and calls on everyone to respect the lawful work of media representatives and their right to perform their professional duties safely, freely and without hindrance.”
