“US President Donald Trump’s policies are causing polarization around the world, but at the same time are preventing the outbreak of a third world war.”
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko made the remarks.
Lukashenko noted that although the United States is not in the region where Belarus is located, Washington’s policies have a significant impact on global affairs.
He said Trump’s policies polarize the world and draw substantial criticism.
Nevertheless, the Belarusian leader said he believes Trump’s contradictory actions are, for now, protecting the world from a nuclear third world war.
Lukashenko claimed Trump had prevented Europeans from starting a nuclear conflict and deserved the Nobel Peace Prize for doing so.
The Belarusian president also stressed the importance of resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict peacefully as soon as possible.
He said there was no need to escalate tensions and that the parties should first reach an agreement on a ceasefire.
“We need to reach agreement on at least one simple issue. We must stop firing at each other. This is the basis of Belarus’s position on the Ukraine issue,” Lukashenko said.
According to Lukashenko, Belarus has taken in half a million Ukrainians since the conflict began. He also said Russia was effectively fighting against much of the West in the war in Ukraine, and that this was well understood in Minsk.
The Belarusian leader said Western countries were frightening their populations with warnings about a threat from Russia and had announced preparations for a possible war in 2030. He claimed the West did not fully understand the scale of such a military confrontation.
