Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente spoke about Lamine Yamal’s performance after his team defeated Croatia 4-1 in the second round of the Nations League.
The Spanish coach said the score could have been even more convincing by halftime.
“The first half could have ended 4-1 or 5-1. The second half was played at the same pace. We were facing a team that defended well and was strong in aerial duels. We had to remain focused in every situation. Later, we regrouped, won possession and regained control of the game,” de la Fuente was quoted as saying by Marca.
The coach said Lamine Yamal, who scored twice, wanted to continue improving and show the world what kind of player he is.
“Yamal wants to continue developing and show the world what kind of footballer he is. He is very humble, and this quality makes him even better. We enjoyed the ability he showed for the benefit of the team. In the future, he will become better known for what he does and for his team play,” the Spain coach said.
The Nations League is a UEFA competition involving European national teams, offering regular competitive fixtures beyond major tournaments. Yamal’s two goals underlined his growing importance to Spain as the team continues its campaign.
