Courts have handed down appropriate sentences to those who committed war crimes against Azerbaijanis.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev made the remarks at an event held at the Prosecutor General’s Office to mark the 108th anniversary of the establishment of Azerbaijan’s prosecution service and the professional holiday of prosecution service employees.
He said that, both during the war and in the post-war period, employees had worked to the best of their ability to identify, investigate and bring to public attention the damage inflicted on civilians and infrastructure by Armenian armed formations, as well as other crimes committed:
“In those cases, the courts, with the participation of the prosecution service, handed down appropriate sentences to the defendants.”
The prosecutor general noted that prosecution service employees had also played an important role in the successes achieved during the Second Garabagh War.
Aliyev also said that targeted measures had been implemented to fulfill the tasks set by President Ilham Aliyev for prosecution bodies during the period under review:
“During this period, professional and deserving personnel were promoted, work continued to improve the living and material conditions of prosecution service employees, and the material and technical infrastructure of the bodies was comprehensively renewed.”
Azerbaijan’s prosecution service was established in 1918 and is responsible for overseeing compliance with the law, conducting criminal investigations within its mandate and representing the state in criminal proceedings.
