A Jordanian policeman was killed and an officer injured in what authorities described as a “terrorist attack” in Amman on Thursday, according to Anadolu Agency.

The Public Security Directorate identified the dead policeman as Corporal Jawad Ali Khalaf al-Salayta. Its spokesperson said the suspect attacked and stabbed him with a sharp object on Medina Street at about 12:20 p.m. local time (0920 GMT).

A police patrol intervened and arrested the suspect, the directorate said. The officer leading the patrol sustained facial injuries during the confrontation.

Al-Salayta was taken to hospital, where he later died. The injured officer was hospitalized in stable condition.

Initial investigations indicated that the suspect had intended and planned to carry out what the directorate described as a “terrorist act” against Public Security personnel.

Shortly before releasing these details, the directorate said personnel had been attacked with a sharp object in the capital and that an investigation had been launched.
