Israeli forces launched airstrikes and artillery attacks on several areas in southern Lebanon early Sunday, according to Lebanon’s state news agency NNA, amid continued violations of a US-mediated framework agreement signed in June.
The attacks targeted towns and areas in the districts of Tyre, Nabatieh, Marjayoun and Bint Jbeil, including Mansouri, Wadi Zibqin, Nabatieh al-Fawqa, Kfar Tibnit, Mayfadoun, Kafr Rumman, Mazraat al-Shomeriya, Al-Qusayr, Beit Yahoun, Safarin and Hadatha.
Areas targeted in southern Lebanon
Israeli forces demolished several homes in Mansouri in the Tyre district, while Wadi Zibqin came under artillery and heavy-machine-gun fire, NNA reported.
In the Nabatieh district, Israeli warplanes carried out overnight strikes on Nabatieh al-Fawqa, the outskirts of Kfar Tibnit and Mayfadoun. One strike on Mayfadoun completely destroyed a house.
The Doha Kafr Rumman area was also shelled. In the Marjayoun district, Israeli artillery targeted the outskirts of Mazraat al-Shomeriya and the town of Al-Qusayr.
In Bint Jbeil, Israeli forces fired machine guns toward Beit Yahoun and Safarin. An Israeli tank fired four shells at Hadatha before Israeli forces advanced toward the town centre and set fire to the area.
Israel cites alleged Hezbollah drone attack
In a statement posted on “X”, the Israeli army said the attacks were carried out in response to an explosive-laden drone allegedly launched by Hezbollah toward its forces on Saturday in what Israel called the “security zone” in southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah has not commented on the claim.
Since March 2, Israeli military operations in Lebanon have killed at least 4,386 people, injured 12,407 and displaced more than 1 million, according to Lebanese authorities.
The latest attacks came despite a framework agreement signed in June through US mediation. The agreement calls for a gradual Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territory in exchange for the deployment of the Lebanese army and the disarmament of Hezbollah.
