The Deputy Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Ali Nikzad, has strongly criticized the economic pressure policies implemented by the United States against Tehran.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Nikzad stated during an open session of parliament that Iran will resolutely defend its national security and national interests.
In a statement to ISNA, the parliamentary official described US plans to impose an economic blockade on Iran as "delusional," emphasizing that the Iranian people will not succumb to such pressure. Nikzad warned Washington, stating that parties attempting to harm Iran's economic interests will face consequences.
He noted that Tehran will take appropriate measures against its adversaries and will jeopardize their economic interests. Nikzad further warned that if Iran's economic situation is further exacerbated, hostile nations and those cooperating with them will also be negatively impacted.
The official's remarks underscore that there has been no shift in Tehran's position amidst the ongoing tensions between the US and Iran. The relationship between the two nations has remained strained for decades, characterized by sanctions, diplomatic disputes, and regional geopolitical competition, with the US maintaining a policy of "maximum pressure" on the Iranian economy.
