Iranian officials have issued a sharp response to recent remarks by US President Donald Trump concerning American control over the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, President Trump claimed on August 12 that the United States maintains "full control" over the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian authorities have categorically rejected these assertions, labeling them as detached from reality and entirely baseless.

An Iranian lawmaker criticized the US President's rhetoric, advising him to focus on his own security concerns rather than making what the official described as "empty and confrontational" threats regarding the waterway. The Strait of Hormuz is a vital global shipping lane, through which a significant portion of the world's oil supply passes, making it a frequent focal point of geopolitical tension between Washington and Tehran.

The diplomatic friction intensified following reports regarding a clandestine flight maneuver during President Trump's travel from Turkey to the United Kingdom. Reports indicate that during a NATO summit in July 2026, the US President transferred from Air Force One to a smaller C-32A military aircraft while departing Ankara. While the primary aircraft continued its scheduled route to divert attention, the President later confirmed the switch was a security precaution.

US media outlets suggested the maneuver was prompted by potential threats from Iran, though the credibility and specific nature of those threats have been subject to conflicting reports. Tehran has seized on the incident to argue that President Trump's aggressive posturing regarding the Strait of Hormuz stands in stark contrast to his own heightened security anxieties. The status of the Strait remains a point of contention, with Tehran asserting its influence over the waterway while Washington insists on maintaining open and secure international transit.
