Iran has officially declared that it will not accept a temporary ceasefire with the United States, emphasizing that its primary objective is the complete cessation of hostilities and the establishment of lasting peace.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran rejects short-term truces, which he described as "recurring, temporary pauses." Araghchi emphasized that Iran seeks a definitive end to the conflict rather than intermittent cessations. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has stated that no negotiations are currently taking place with Tehran, particularly amid the ongoing maritime blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, and that no such contacts are planned for the near future. President Trump also confirmed that a memorandum of understanding, which expired on August 17, would not be extended.

The military tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated significantly since June, following military operations initiated by Israel against Iran on June 13. Since July 8, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) has reportedly conducted a series of strikes against Iranian targets, which Washington describes as a response to threats against commercial vessels navigating the Strait of Hormuz. In retaliation, Tehran has targeted US military bases in the Middle East and threatened to close the strategic waterway, further complicating prospects for a diplomatic resolution to the crisis.
