Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said the United States and Israel were seeking to create internal divisions in Iran after failing to defeat the country militarily. Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency reported the remarks.
Pezeshkian’s remarks
Pezeshkian said Iran’s enemies had realized they could not force the Iranian people to surrender through war.
“Iran’s aggressive enemies have understood today that they cannot make the Iranian people surrender through war and cannot conquer our country with bombs and missiles,” the president said.
Revolutionary Guards’ appeal
In a letter published on Sept. 29, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps urged Americans not to vote for US President Donald Trump’s allies in Congress.
The letter called on voters to “remove from power the evil, deceptive and violent politicians responsible for America’s current situation.” It also stressed the importance of ensuring that politicians understand that “the world has changed.”
Elections for the US House of Representatives and some Senate seats will be held on Nov. 3.
Trump pledged during his 2024 election campaign to avoid new wars, end existing conflicts and reduce inflation. The war with Iran is said to have contributed to higher global fuel prices and the spread of tensions across the Middle East.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, an influential military and political institution, frequently issues statements on national security and foreign policy. The United States and Iran have long been at odds over regional security, sanctions and Iran’s nuclear program.
