Despite the challenges created by foreign military and geopolitical tensions in the region, trade turnover between Iran and Azerbaijan increased over the past six months, Iranian Roads and Urban Development Minister Farzaneh Sadegh said.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing foreign media outlets, that she made the statement.
The Iranian minister said existing infrastructure capacity should be further expanded to ensure that trade continues its upward trend amid the development of economic and transport links between the two countries. Sadegh also stressed the need to promptly remove obstacles along border crossings and transit routes.
Discussions also focused on strengthening the operation of the Astara cargo terminal within the International North-South Transport Corridor and accelerating joint infrastructure projects.
The International North-South Transport Corridor is a multimodal route designed to connect northern Europe and Russia with Iran, India and other markets through rail, road and maritime links. Astara, located on the Azerbaijan-Iran border, is an important point in the corridor’s regional logistics network.
