Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has called for the United States and Israel to be held accountable regarding alleged assassination plots targeting the Iranian leadership.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the spokesperson made these remarks in an interview with RIA Novosti. Baghaei emphasized that Iran is not alone in this matter and that the international community must demand accountability for these actions.

"What the United States and Israel are doing is a crime against international peace and security. This constitutes a war crime and a crime against humanity," Baghaei stated. He specifically referenced Common Article 1 of the 1949 Geneva Conventions, reminding all states of their obligation to respect and ensure respect for international humanitarian law. The spokesperson added that United Nations member states must demand accountability for the actions of the US and Israel.

The allegations come amid heightened regional tensions and a long-standing shadow war between Tehran and its adversaries. Iran has frequently accused foreign intelligence agencies of conducting covert operations and targeted killings within its borders, including the high-profile assassination of nuclear scientists and military commanders. These diplomatic tensions are further complicated by the current geopolitical landscape, as US President Donald Trump maintains a firm stance on regional security and Iranian influence in the Middle East. The invocation of the Geneva Conventions by Tehran signals an attempt to shift the discourse into the framework of international law and seek formal diplomatic pressure through UN channels.
