Inter Miami head coach Cristian Alberto “Kili” Gonzalez has commented on Lionel Messi’s international career with Argentina coming to an end, describing the forward’s farewell match as emotional.
“I told him to enjoy the moment and feel the love coming not only from Argentina but from all over the world. We will certainly miss seeing him in this shirt. But he is here now, and we have to appreciate having him with us. He will miss the national team and remember what he contributed and the legacy he left there. Unfortunately, we will not see him in this shirt again. Now he is ours,” Goal.com quoted Gonzalez as saying.
Messi, 39, played his farewell match for Argentina on the night of October 6-7. Argentina defeated Benin 3-0.
Messi has played for Inter Miami since 2023. Before that, he represented Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona. His Argentina career spanned more than two decades, during which he won the 2022 FIFA World Cup and multiple Copa América titles.
