A Kalashnikov assault rifle, along with a magazine, 96 rounds of 7.62 caliber ammunition, and a hand grenade, have been discovered buried in the ground in the Digah settlement of the Absheron district.
This information was provided to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the Ministry of Justice.
According to the official statement, the discovery was the result of a joint operation conducted by the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). Investigations revealed that the weapons and ammunition had been buried by an inmate currently serving a sentence in a penitentiary facility under the Ministry of Justice prior to his arrest.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the concealment of the illegal items. Such operations are part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies in Azerbaijan to ensure public safety and remove illegal firearms from circulation, a critical component of the country's broader security strategy to maintain order and prevent criminal activities.
