President Ilham Aliyev received Tiina Nirk, Estonia’s newly appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Azerbaijan, on Sept. 23.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the ambassador presented her credentials to the head of state.

The head of state highlighted the importance of mutual visits and contacts at various levels in expanding cooperation between Azerbaijan and Estonia.
President Ilham Aliyev noted the development of Azerbaijan-European Union relations, highlighting this year’s visits to Azerbaijan by European Council President Antonio Costa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Kaja Kallas, the EU high representative for foreign affairs and security policy and vice-president of the European Commission.
The head of state wished the ambassador success in her work.
Tiina Nirk said she was honored to have been appointed Estonia’s first ambassador to Azerbaijan and emphasized that she would work diligently to develop relations between the two countries, as well as between Azerbaijan and the European Union.
Noting Azerbaijan’s important position along the Middle Corridor, the ambassador said there was strong potential to expand partnerships in several areas, including political dialogue, business, information technology, logistics and other fields.
Tiina Nirk also highlighted broad opportunities for cooperation in education, noting that nearly 200 Azerbaijani students are studying in Estonia.
The ambassador also highly valued Azerbaijan’s humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.
The meeting emphasized that the opening of Estonia’s embassy in Azerbaijan would make an important contribution to the further development of bilateral relations. The sides also discussed the work of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Trade Cooperation and exchanged views on matters of mutual interest.
