Yemen’s Houthi group said on Saturday that Saudi airstrikes had targeted the capital, Sanaa, and Mokha, a city in Taiz governorate, Anadolu Agency reported.

The Houthi-run Yemen News Agency cited an unnamed local source as saying Saudi aircraft had carried out several strikes in different parts of Mokha, west of Taiz governorate. The source said aircraft were still flying over the area but gave no details about the outcome of the attacks.

Separately, the agency said Saudi aircraft had carried out a series of strikes on the Asr and Hamdan areas of Sanaa. It claimed civilians were killed and wounded, without providing casualty figures.

Riyadh did not immediately respond to the claims.

Earlier on Saturday, Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki, a spokesperson for the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen, said two ballistic missiles launched by the Houthis towards the Saudi cities of Taif and Yanbu had been intercepted and destroyed.

The Houthis have controlled Sanaa and other parts of Yemen since 2014. Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition supporting the Yemeni government against the group since 2015.

Recent escalation between Yemeni government forces and the Houthis began in July, as a 2022 ceasefire collapsed. The group has also targeted Saudi energy and civilian sites.
