Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with the Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan, Mikayil Jabbarov, who is currently on a visit to the country.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the State News Agency of Turkmenistan, Minister Jabbarov conveyed the sincere greetings of President Ilham Aliyev to Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
In response, the Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan expressed his best wishes to the President of Azerbaijan and emphasized the significance of the continuously deepening mutual relations between the two friendly nations. He noted that the ties between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan are developing based on traditional principles of mutual respect.
During the meeting, it was highlighted that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to strengthening friendship, brotherhood, and good-neighborly relations with Azerbaijan. The parties discussed the significance of the state visit made by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Azerbaijan last month. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov reiterated his gratitude to the Azerbaijani side for the "Dostlug" oil tanker, which was gifted to Turkmenistan during the visit.
Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, both Caspian littoral states, have significantly strengthened their bilateral cooperation in recent years, particularly in the energy and transport sectors. The "Dostlug" field development agreement, signed in 2021, marked a historic milestone in resolving long-standing maritime disputes and paved the way for joint exploration of hydrocarbon resources in the Caspian Sea, further cementing the strategic partnership between the two nations.
