Gas supplies to Quetta and Upper Balochistan have been partially suspended following an explosion at a gas pipeline in the Harnai district of western Pakistan, carried out by militants.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing Pakistan's The Express Tribune, that the blast severely damaged a pipeline belonging to the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC).

A spokesperson for the company confirmed the incident, stating that specialists arrived at the scene, shut off the gas supply, and extinguished the resulting fire. However, the gas pipeline has been completely disabled. The SSGC representative added that repair work on the damaged section will commence once clearance is obtained from law enforcement agencies. Restoration of the gas supply is expected to take between 12 and 24 hours after repairs begin.

Balochistan, Pakistan's largest province by area, has frequently been the site of insurgent activity targeting critical infrastructure, including energy pipelines and transport links. These attacks often aim to disrupt the regional economy and challenge federal authority. The Sui Southern Gas Company is a major state-owned utility provider in the region, and such disruptions frequently impact both residential heating and industrial operations in the provincial capital, Quetta.
