Gagik Beglaryan, the former Minister of Transport and Communication of the Republic of Armenia and a former mayor of Yerevan, has been detained.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia officially announced the detention. Beglaryan is being held in connection with a criminal investigation involving serious allegations of abuse of official authority and large-scale money laundering.
The Anti-Corruption Committee has further confirmed that it has submitted a motion to the court seeking his formal arrest as the investigation proceeds. The charges relate to his tenure in various high-ranking government positions, where he is accused of leveraging his authority for illicit financial gain.
Gagik Beglaryan served as the mayor of Yerevan from 2009 to 2010 and later held the position of Minister of Transport and Communication from 2012 to 2016. His detention marks another development in the ongoing anti-corruption efforts within Armenia, which have targeted several former high-ranking officials over the past few years regarding their activities during their time in office.
