Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir hospitalised after wife’s death

Malaysia’s former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has been admitted to hospital following the death of his wife, state media reported on Wednesday.

Mahathir was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) for observation on Tuesday, according to Bernama news agency, which cited his son Mukhriz Mahathir.

The 101-year-old statesman was taken to the same hospital a day after his wife, Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, died there at the age of 100.

Siti Hasmah buried after heart attack

Siti Hasmah died on Monday after her condition deteriorated following a heart attack. She was laid to rest later that day.

Mahathir and Siti Hasmah, both trained doctors, had been married for 70 years and had seven children.
