Azerbaijan's Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov held bilateral meetings with Türkiye's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar and Moldova's Minister of Energy Dorin Jungietu within the framework of the Istanbul Natural Resources Summit. The discussions focused on the expansion of strategic energy partnerships and the implementation of large-scale transit projects.
The Ministry of Energy told Operative Information Center-OMM that during the meeting with Alparslan Bayraktar, both sides expressed satisfaction with the growth of the strategic energy partnership between Azerbaijan and Türkiye. The ministers highlighted the significant contributions of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline and the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) to regional and global energy security. A key focus of the talks was the transmission of electricity from Azerbaijan to Türkiye and Europe via Nakhchivan and Georgia, as well as the potential for transporting renewable energy from Central Asia through the Zangazur corridor. The recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on energy efficiency in buildings was also hailed as a testament to the deepening ties between the two nations.
In a separate meeting with Moldovan Energy Minister Dorin Jungietu, the officials emphasized the vital role of pipeline infrastructure in ensuring stable gas supplies under current global energy realities. The ministers evaluated opportunities for developing cooperation across various energy sectors and discussed ongoing reforms in their respective countries. Both Alparslan Bayraktar and Dorin Jungietu confirmed their upcoming participation in the Baku Energy Week, a premier event for the regional energy industry.
The development of the Zangazur corridor and the Nakhchivan energy route represents a strategic shift in the South Caucasus energy map, aiming to transform Azerbaijan into a major green energy hub. By linking the renewable energy potential of the Caspian Sea and Central Asia with European markets, these projects align with Azerbaijan's national strategy to diversify export routes and support the global transition to sustainable energy. These initiatives further solidify the role of Baku as a critical guarantor of European energy security.
