Donald Tusk: ABŞ Avropanı həqiqətən qoruyacaqmı?

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has expressed significant concerns regarding the reliability of United States support for Europe in the event of a potential military conflict.

According to Operative Information Center-OMM, the Prime Minister shared these views during an interview with the Financial Times. Tusk voiced doubts about whether the US would provide immediate assistance to Poland and other European nations if they were targeted by an external attack.

The Prime Minister noted that while Washington officially considers Poland one of its closest allies in Europe, the practical application of this alliance remains uncertain. "Washington considers Poland one of its closest allies in Europe, but how this will play out in a real-world situation is under question," Tusk stated. He emphasized that while he wants to believe in the continued validity of NATO's Article 5—the collective defense clause—certain developments have led to hesitation. These concerns intensified following an incident in September when 24 unidentified drones entered Polish airspace. Although Warsaw characterized the event as a "Russian provocation," the Prime Minister admitted it was difficult to convince international partners of the severity of the threat.

The geopolitical landscape has shifted significantly following the inauguration of US President Donald Trump in January 2025. US President Donald Trump has consistently called for European nations to increase their own defense spending and reduce their reliance on American military resources. This policy shift has prompted leaders across the continent, including those in Poland, to re-evaluate their security frameworks and the future of the transatlantic alliance. Tusk warned that the possibility of a Russian offensive against Europe in the coming months cannot be ruled out, necessitating a more self-reliant European defense strategy.
