At least two people were killed after severe cyclonic storm Murasu struck the coastal region of India’s Andhra Pradesh state on Tuesday, officials said, according to Anadolu Agency.

The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority said the deaths occurred in incidents linked to the cyclone, which made landfall on Tuesday and caused damage across the state.

On Wednesday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu after two cyclones hit the state within a week.

Murasu struck days after Cyclone Arnab made landfall on India’s southern coast, killing at least five people.

Naidu’s office said in a statement posted on “X” that he had explained the damage caused by the cyclones to Modi and appealed to the central government for assistance, saying significant losses had occurred across various sectors.

Naidu also said on Wednesday that he had conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas in several districts hit by Murasu.

Several villages remained inundated, and roads had been damaged by the cyclone, he said.
