Former FIFA President Joseph Blatter commented on remarks by the organization’s current president, Gianni Infantino, at a meeting of the FIFA Council.
In a post on his X account, Blatter called Infantino’s speech “magnificent.” He wrote that Infantino was apparently a good Catholic and had promised 25 million after making a confession. Blatter described the remarks as combining confession, indulgence and the forgiveness of sins.
“The Pope would have been pleased. But in football, as in the Church, trust cannot be bought with money,” Blatter wrote.
Infantino had earlier apologized to his critics over the controversy surrounding the sale of World Cup broadcasting rights. However, according to ESPN, he did not provide documents or new details on the issues that most concerned FIFA Council members.
