The amount Barcelona can use to strengthen its squad during the winter transfer window has been revealed.

"Operative Information Center-OMM", citing Diario Sport, reports that financial fair play rules allow the Catalan club to spend around 60 million euros in January.

However, Barcelona is reportedly in no hurry to use the funds to sign new players.

Under a special La Liga rule, the club may also allocate the amount to increasing its wage bill. Barcelona has reportedly faced difficulties in this area for several years.

According to the report, head coach Hansi Flick requested a new central defender in the summer, but the transfer did not materialize. The club’s sporting director, Deco, could revisit the issue in January.

Barcelona leads the Spanish championship standings with 12 points after four rounds.

La Liga’s financial control system links clubs’ spending capacity to their revenues, costs and wage commitments. The rules are intended to promote financial sustainability while allowing clubs to operate within approved budget limits.
