Barcelona’s main target in the transfer market is reportedly a left-footed central defender. The Catalan club wants to form a reliable defensive partnership with Pau Cubarsí.
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that although head coach Hansi Flick trusts Gerard Martín, he believes the player does not yet have the required level to become an undisputed member of the starting lineup.
Schlotterbeck is Flick’s preferred choice
Barcelona reportedly has three candidates. The player most highly rated by Flick is 26-year-old Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck.
The German footballer has impressed the Catalan head coach with his physical and technical qualities.
Schlotterbeck could be signed for 60 million euros. That amount is set out in the release clause in the player’s contract.
Other defenders on the list
Barcelona’s shortlist is also reportedly believed to include 32-year-old Aymeric Laporte of Athletic and 18-year-old Ruud Nijstad of Twente.
Nijstad’s transfer is viewed primarily as an investment in the future.
