Azerbaijan’s wind power generation rises nearly 22-fold

Azerbaijan’s wind power plants generated 726.7 million kilowatt-hours of electricity in January-August this year.

According to data from the State Statistics Committee cited by "Operative Information Center-OMM", the figure was 21.8 times higher than in the first 8 months of 2025.

A total of 17 billion 887.5 million kilowatt-hours of electricity was generated in Azerbaijan during the reporting period, down 2.4% year on year. Of this, 17 billion 376.5 million kilowatt-hours consisted of marketable electricity, a 1.9% annual decline.

Hydropower plants accounted for 2 billion 498.9 million kilowatt-hours, an annual increase of 10.7 %. Thermal power plants generated 13 billion 549.8 million kilowatt-hours, down 8.8%, while 154.9 million kilowatt-hours came from biomass and waste incineration, up 5.6 %.

Solar power plants generated 446.2 million kilowatt-hours during the reporting period, which was 9.4% higher than in January-August 2025.

The figures highlight the expanding role of renewable energy in Azerbaijan’s electricity mix, alongside continued generation from hydropower, thermal plants and waste-to-energy facilities.
