The medals won by Azerbaijani athletes at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games, which subsequently suffered from surface wear and corrosion, have been replaced with new ones.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that this was stated in a notification sent by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Azerbaijan.

According to the report, the silver medal won by taekwondo fighter Gashim Magomedov and the bronze medal earned by Greco-Roman wrestler Hasrat Jafarov have already been replaced. The new medals are expected to be delivered to the National Olympic Committee in Baku by March 20. The Olympic medalists will be invited to the NOC headquarters for an official presentation ceremony to receive their replacement awards.

The issue of medal quality arose shortly after the Paris 2024 Games, when several athletes worldwide reported that their bronze and silver medals were showing signs of rapid deterioration and discoloration. The IOC, in coordination with the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee and the Monnaie de Paris (the French Mint), pledged to replace any damaged awards for athletes affected by these production defects. Azerbaijan concluded the Paris 2024 Olympics with a total of seven medals, including two golds, two silvers, and three bronzes, marking a significant achievement for the nation's sporting history.
