Mikayil Jabbarov, President of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation, has congratulated the national Greco-Roman wrestling team for finishing first in the team standings at the European Championship held in Tirana, Albania.

"We are the strongest in Europe! The latest magnificent success of our Greco-Roman wrestling national team at the European Championship in Tirana, the capital of Albania, makes each of us happy and proud. Hasrat Jafarov (67 kg) making history as a four-time consecutive European champion, and Gurban Gurbanov (82 kg) defending his title to reach the top again, are clear examples of great perseverance, hard work, and professionalism. The bronze medals won by Rashad Mammadov (55 kg), Nihat Mammadli (60 kg), and Islam Abbasov (87 kg) once again demonstrated the fighting spirit of our team. I sincerely congratulate our athletes, their coaches, and families on this remarkable achievement, and I wish for the continued success of Azerbaijani sports on the international arena," Jabbarov stated.

In total, Azerbaijan's Greco-Roman wrestlers secured five medals at the championship, including two golds and three bronzes. This collective performance allowed the team to claim the overall European title in the team standings. Wrestling remains one of the most successful sports in Azerbaijan, receiving significant state support and contributing heavily to the nation's Olympic and international medal counts. The continental championship in Albania is scheduled to conclude on April 26.
