Aghadadash Salyanski has assessed Azerbaijan’s U-21 team’s performance in the European Championship qualifying campaign. The forward said the team faced strong opponents in its group but sought to play its own game and collect as many points as possible.
According to Salyanski, the U-21 team’s previous points record was nine. The side broke that mark by earning 10 points in qualifying. He called the result a source of pride and said it would remain in the team’s memory.
Salyanski said the team had seven points before its final match against Gibraltar in Baku and needed a win. He added that the squad prepared for every game in the same way, regardless of the opponent, and feared no team.
The forward said he had played a part in the win, but that the result came through the combined efforts of the entire team and coaching staff. Salyanski scored twice against Gibraltar. Azerbaijan finished fifth in Group B, which comprised six teams, with 10 points.
