The funds of the mandatory health insurance system in Azerbaijan are set to be classified as "free funds," allowing for potential investment operations, according to new legislative amendments.
As reported by the Operative Information Center-OMM, this provision is included in the amendments to the Law "On Medical Insurance," for which President Ilham Aliyev has signed a decree on implementation.
Under the terms of the decree, the Cabinet of Ministers is tasked with drafting regulations within three months regarding the classification of these funds as free assets and the procedures for conducting investment operations with them. Once drafted, these regulations must be submitted to the President of Azerbaijan for final approval.
This legislative change marks a significant step in the financial management of Azerbaijan's healthcare sector. By allowing the mandatory health insurance fund to manage its assets more flexibly, the government aims to optimize the use of financial resources, potentially enhancing the sustainability and efficiency of the national healthcare system as it continues to expand coverage across the country.
