The deliberate murder of a person who went missing seven years ago in Jalilabad has been solved.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs issued a joint statement on the matter.
According to the statement, in April 2019, a report was filed with the district police department stating that Nadir Bahadir oglu Mammadov, a resident of the city of Goytepe in the Jalilabad district, had left his home in March of that year and failed to return.
Following the report, officers of the Jalilabad District Police Department carried out the necessary inquiries and search-and-operational measures to locate Nadir Mammadov.
Based on the materials collected during the investigation, the Jalilabad District Prosecutor’s Office opened a criminal case on Aug. 8, 2019.
Numerous investigative and search-and-operational measures were carried out during the preliminary investigation. However, as Mammadov’s whereabouts could not be established, proceedings in the criminal case were last suspended on Oct. 18, 2022.
Subsequent coordinated investigative and search-and-operational measures, professionally continued by the Jalilabad District Prosecutor’s Office and the district police department, including a comprehensive and cross-analysis of the evidence collected, confirmed that Mammadov’s disappearance was linked to a deliberate murder.
The preliminary investigation established reasonable suspicion that Ramiz Dadash oglu Alakbarov, born in 1959 and previously acquainted with Mammadov, deliberately killed him out of revenge.
On March 23, 2019, Alakbarov allegedly took advantage of Mammadov’s intoxication, placed him in a car he was driving in Goytepe and took him to the yard of his private house in the village of Taza Alvadi, Masalli district.
At around 10 p.m. that day, Alakbarov allegedly strangled Mammadov inside the car and deliberately killed him. To conceal the crime, he reportedly threw the body into an unused water well in the yard.
On Sept. 20, 2026, the act under investigation was classified under Article 120.1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, covering deliberate murder.
On the same date, Alakbarov was detained as a suspect in the criminal case. During questioning in the presence of his defense lawyer, he gave testimony regarding the charge and confessed to committing the crime.
During an inspection of the scene with Alakbarov’s participation, excavation work was carried out in the unusable water well he indicated. Bone fragments believed to be of human origin were discovered and removed.
Necessary investigative and search-and-operational measures are currently continuing in the criminal case.
The Prosecutor General’s Office continues to focus on solving criminal cases that have remained unresolved for years, including investigating reports concerning missing persons. Comprehensive measures are being carried out jointly with relevant state bodies, including internal affairs agencies.
