A border violator who offered armed resistance was neutralized.
The State Border Service provided the information to Operative Information Center-OMM.
It said a border patrol guarding the state border in the service area of the State Border Service’s Goytepe border detachment observed border violators moving from Iran toward Azerbaijan.
The border outpost was immediately placed on alert under the “Weapons” command, the area was sealed off, and necessary measures were taken to prevent a violation of the state border.
The border violators were pursued after being ordered to stop, and warning shots were fired into the air. One violator who refused to obey offered armed resistance and opened fire with the intention of endangering the border guards’ lives.
To detain the individual, who had ignored the border guards’ lawful demands, weapons were used in accordance with the requirements of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On the State Border,” and the border violator was neutralized.
Iran was informed of the incident through the border representatives’ channel.
A criminal case has been opened. The State Border Service and the Military Prosecutor’s Office are continuing the necessary joint operational-search and investigative measures.
