Azerbaijan and Japan have reached an agreement to hold the first meeting of the Joint Committee on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) to promote cooperation in the field of decarbonization.

This was reported to the Operative Information Center-OMM in a joint press statement following a meeting in Tokyo between Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and his Japanese counterpart, Toshimitsu Motegi.

Furthermore, the statement noted that both parties expressed satisfaction with the 12th meeting of the Azerbaijan-Japan Joint Economic Committee, held in September 2025, which aimed to further expand trade and investment relations between the two nations. The officials reaffirmed the necessity of convening the next session of the committee in the near future to sustain this momentum.

The Joint Crediting Mechanism is a critical tool for facilitating the diffusion of advanced decarbonization technologies, products, systems, services, and infrastructure. By leveraging Japan's technological expertise in renewable energy and Azerbaijan's strategic potential as a green energy hub in the South Caucasus, this partnership seeks to align with global climate goals while fostering bilateral economic growth.
