At least three people were killed and two others injured when a news helicopter crashed in the Chatsworth district of Los Angeles, California.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) and local law enforcement agencies provided the information.

The crash occurred in a warehouse area near commercial buildings at the intersection of Lurline Avenue and Nordhoff Street. The aircraft hit two cargo containers and several vehicles, triggering a major fire. Fire crews dispatched to the scene brought the blaze under control within a short time. The bodies of three people were found at the site, while those injured were taken to hospital.

News channels confirmed that the helicopter belonged to NBC4 (KNBC) and Telemundo 52 and was covering from the air another fatal bus crash in the area. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said the helicopter did not belong to the military or police. The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have launched comprehensive investigations to determine whether the crash was caused by a sudden technical failure or other factors.

The NTSB is an independent federal agency responsible for investigating major transportation accidents in the United States, while the FAA oversees civil aviation safety and regulation. Their findings are expected to help establish the cause of the crash and identify any possible safety measures.
