Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has met with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, to discuss regional stability and human rights protections.

According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing foreign media reports, the meeting focused on priorities in the field of human rights protection, current challenges facing the international human rights system, and key areas of cooperation between Armenia and the UN body.

During the discussions, Mirzoyan presented Armenia's approaches toward the institutionalization of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The parties exchanged views on steps aimed at strengthening sustainable peace, creating an environment of trust, and addressing humanitarian issues and the needs of populations affected by past conflict.

The meeting also emphasized the importance of active cooperation to continuously strengthen democratic resilience and trust in human rights institutions. This dialogue comes as Azerbaijan and Armenia continue diplomatic efforts to finalize a peace treaty, which Baku has repeatedly stated must be based on the principles of international law and mutual recognition of territorial integrity.

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) plays a central role in monitoring global human rights standards and providing technical assistance to member states. Such high-level meetings are part of the broader international effort to ensure that regional peace processes in the South Caucasus are accompanied by robust legal and humanitarian frameworks.
