Antonio Jose Seguro, the candidate of the Socialist Party (PS), has been elected as the new president of Portugal following the second round of voting. According to the final results, Seguro secured a decisive victory with 66.2 percent of the vote, defeating his opponent Andre Ventura.

The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Ventura, the leader of the far-right "Chega" party, received 33.8 percent of the ballots. More than 11 million eligible voters were registered to participate in the election to choose a successor to Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, who was ineligible to run for a third consecutive term under Portuguese law. The president-elect is expected to be sworn in and officially assume office in the coming days.

The presidential role in Portugal, while primarily ceremonial, carries significant political weight, including the authority to dissolve parliament and mediate during government crises. This election comes at a pivotal time for the country as it addresses economic stability and its role within the European Union. Relations between Azerbaijan and Portugal continue to develop within the framework of international cooperation, with both nations maintaining diplomatic ties and exploring further opportunities for bilateral engagement in various sectors.
