From a newsroom in Baku to audiences in countries around the world, AnewZ is marking two years of work in reporting, documentary filmmaking and digital journalism.

AnewZ began operations two years ago with the aim of bringing the South Caucasus closer to the world and the world closer to the South Caucasus. The international news channel went on air in Baku on Nov. 4, 2024, seeking to cover global events while giving greater attention to stories and perspectives from the region, Central Asia and the Middle East.

AnewZ now reports from more than 50 cities worldwide and has 12 bureaus in different countries. Its journalists cover a range of topics, from conflicts and diplomacy affecting international relations to business, culture and technology.

Reporting across borders

AnewZ began broadcasting in the weeks leading up to COP29 in Baku. The channel was an official media partner of the event. Since then, its correspondents have reported from different parts of the world, bringing audiences coverage of unfolding events.

In Syria, the AnewZ team travelled to the country’s northeast and spoke with communities living with the consequences of war and political change.

In October 2026, special correspondent Sabir Safarov filmed at the site of an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. The footage was used by international broadcasters, including the BBC and Al Jazeera.

Documentaries and digital audiences

AnewZ’s original projects give journalists and directors an opportunity to examine the forces behind the headlines. The “The Frontline” series took viewers to Libya to explore the country’s divisions and reconstruction efforts, and to the Korean Peninsula, where the legacy of war continues to affect the lives of millions.

In December 2025, AnewZ launched its investigations unit with “The Oligarch’s Design,” a documentary filmed in eight countries. Other investigations have examined the role of humanitarian organizations in conflicts, as well as questions of power and influence in France.

AnewZ has also brought lesser-known historical subjects to international audiences. Premiered in Berlin, the “Kontrapunkt” project explored two centuries of German-Azerbaijani history. “The Aviators of Ganja” told the story of Spanish pilots who trained in Azerbaijan before World War II.

A documentary about Sheki’s living heritage was screened at the United Nations World Urban Forum in Baku. The “Destination” series has taken viewers to locations across Azerbaijan and Central Asia.

Alongside its television broadcasts, AnewZ has expanded its presence on digital and social media platforms, where it shares reports, interviews, explainers and original films.

According to the channel’s social media data, AnewZ’s posts received 1 billion views in 2025–2026, while its follower count increased by 660,000.

The channel has also developed fact-checking and explainer formats to clarify complex issues and help audiences distinguish reliable information from misleading content.

As technology changes how news is produced and consumed, AnewZ is exploring the use of artificial intelligence across different areas of its work. The channel is using new tools to support newsroom processes and develop visual storytelling and digital content, while keeping editorial judgment and human experience at the core.

Behind every broadcast, report and project is a team. Journalists, correspondents, presenters, producers, camera operators, editors, designers, technical staff and other employees have helped transform the channel from a Baku newsroom into an international one.

In a statement, AnewZ thanked everyone who follows, reads, shares and engages with the channel. A feature marking its two years of operations said that “the story continues.”
