During the Patriotic War, Azerbaijan drove Armenian occupiers from its occupied territories.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that President Ilham Aliyev made the remarks at the 7th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), held in Baku.
He said Azerbaijan liberated more than 300 cities and villages from occupation on the battlefield.
The president said Azerbaijan had sought to resolve the restoration of its full sovereignty through peaceful means in the three years after the Patriotic War, but Armenia used the ceasefire as an opportunity to rebuild its military forces and, with the help of new Western supporters, attack Azerbaijan again:
“That is exactly what began in September 2023, when the iron fist of the Azerbaijani soldier once again spoke. The occupying Armenian army in Garabagh was completely defeated. Azerbaijan fully restored its sovereignty and territorial integrity and put an end to separatism. The separatist leaders, war criminals and child murderers were brought before Azerbaijani courts.”
