Afghanistan wants to gain access to direct fuel imports from Azerbaijan, increase exports and expand investment. The proposals were voiced at a meeting held in Kabul on Tuesday between Sayed Karim Hashemi, head of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI), and Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Afghanistan Ilham Mammadov.

Afghanistan’s private sector plans to cooperate more closely with Azerbaijani companies to purchase gasoline and diesel. Hashemi asked for assistance in establishing direct contacts between Afghan traders and reliable fuel suppliers in Azerbaijan.

According to the ACCI, the chamber’s head asked the Azerbaijani ambassador to support the establishment of ties between reputable Azerbaijani companies and suppliers and Afghan traders seeking to purchase and import gasoline and diesel.

Increasing trade and joint investment was also among the main topics discussed at the meeting. Afghanistan highlighted opportunities in agriculture, industry and mining, and proposed increasing the export of Afghan products to the Azerbaijani market.

Ilham Mammadov said Azerbaijan was interested in strengthening economic and trade ties with Afghanistan. The sides agreed on the importance of establishing more direct contacts between Afghan and Azerbaijani traders, as well as investors.

Afghanistan also wants Azerbaijani business circles to participate more actively in the fifth Imam Abu Hanifa National and International Exhibition, which will be held in Kabul. Hashemi invited Azerbaijani traders and investors to attend the exhibition and explore investment opportunities in Afghanistan.

Ilham Mammadov welcomed the invitation and expressed hope that Azerbaijan’s private sector would be more broadly represented at this year’s exhibition.
