A group of members of the Iranian parliament has formally requested that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei authorize the development of intercontinental ballistic missiles.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing reports from the Iranian newspaper "Asriran," this initiative highlights growing internal pressure regarding the nation's defense strategy.

The petition was signed by 85 Iranian parliamentarians who have expressed skepticism regarding the ongoing negotiations with the United States. The signatories voiced a lack of confidence in Washington's position concerning a peaceful resolution to the conflict between Tehran and the U.S.

Meanwhile, the Israeli publication "The Jerusalem Post" reports that analysts from the U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW) have interpreted this appeal as a direct call for the development of missiles capable of reaching the U.S. mainland.

Yaakov Amidror, Israel's former national security advisor, noted in comments to the publication that any economic benefits gained from potential negotiations with Washington could provide Tehran with additional resources to pursue such advanced military programs.

It should be noted that Iranian official authorities have not yet issued a formal statement regarding this parliamentary appeal. The development of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) remains a highly sensitive topic in international diplomacy, as such technology significantly alters the strategic balance and poses a direct challenge to global non-proliferation efforts.
