Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sharply criticized US support for Kyiv after Russian strikes across Ukraine. Ukrainian officials said more than 70 people had been killed in the attacks over two days.
Zelensky spoke after a strike on the eastern city of Kramatorsk. Russian aircraft hit civilian buses and other locations. According to the source, it was one of the deadliest single incidents in Ukraine this year.
Zelensky calls on US to provide additional support
The Ukrainian leader urged Washington to expand military and technological assistance, particularly by providing access to satellite capabilities to identify the launch sites of Russian missiles.
“Turn on Starlink for Ukraine. You did it when taking action on Iran,” Zelensky said.
He said helping Ukraine defend its airspace and gain an advantage there would bring Russian President Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table. According to Zelensky, such support could help counter Russia’s intensifying missile and drone attacks.
Zelensky also objected to recent statements by US officials describing the conflict as a stalemate. “Where is the truth and honesty? Where is the stalemate? This is called unwillingness,” he said.
The Ukrainian president said he considered it contradictory to discuss future economic projects with Russia while also describing diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict as deadlocked.
Attacks damage energy and water infrastructure
Ukrainian officials said civilians were killed and injured in attacks across several regions, including Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk and Ivano-Frankivsk. Kyiv was also targeted again, with casualties and damage to energy and water infrastructure reported.
Ukrainian officials accused Russia of deliberately targeting civilian sites and public transport. Moscow has consistently denied deliberately targeting civilians.
Zelensky said a Ukrainian delegation would meet US officials soon to discuss tightening sanctions against Russia and providing additional air defense capabilities. He said he hoped European partners would also take part in talks on strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
Ukrainian officials said the country’s air defense network was under sustained pressure, as Russia expanded attacks on cities, energy facilities and infrastructure ahead of the winter season.
