The successful hosting of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku is a positive result of the successful domestic and foreign policy of President Ilham Aliyev.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that this was stated by the Speaker of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) Sahiba Gafarova during today's plenary session of the parliament.
According to her, the head of state, in his speech at the opening ceremony of the forum, spoke about the projects implemented in the field of modern urban planning in Baku and other regions of Azerbaijan: "President Ilham Aliyev specially emphasized that urban planning traditions in Azerbaijan have deep historical roots. Over the centuries, a rich urban culture has been formed here, and unique architectural monuments have been created. Today, while preserving its historical heritage, Azerbaijan also applies modern standards of sustainable development and advanced approaches in urban planning."
The speaker noted that the restoration and reconstruction work in the liberated territories is of exceptional importance in this regard: "Not just new settlements, but a modern living environment is being created in Garabagh and East Zangilan. It is significant that 2026 has been declared the 'Year of Urban Planning and Architecture' in Azerbaijan. Hosting the 13th session of the World Urban Forum during such a period shows that urban planning, architecture, and sustainable development issues occupy an important place not only in Azerbaijan's domestic agenda but also in its international activities."
Gafarova emphasized that members of the Milli Majlis actively participated in the panel sessions of WUF13 and made interesting speeches during the discussions, highlighting that the parliamentary dimension of sustainable development is gaining greater importance in creating legal frameworks for modern urban planning and environmental safety.
